Maintenance

Your landscape lighting requires regular on-going maintenance to ensure that it achieves the effect intended by your lighting designer and to extend the life of your lighting fixtures. Our maintenance plan consists of:

  • Fixture reconditioning
  • Lamp replacement
  • Fixture re-aiming

In addition to ongoing maintenance, we can also troubleshoot a problem lighting system or document and analyze a lighting system that you inherit.

Fixture reconditioning

Over the life of your lighting system your fixtures are exposed to various conditions that can affect how they function and reduce their expected lives. Moisture can get into a fixture and cause corrosion; garden chemicals can eat away a fixtures finish; and fixtures may be damaged by lawn mowers or other garden equipment. By reconditioning your fixtures we can extend their lives. WEStar will:

  • Clean fixtures
  • Lubricate fixture sockets and lamps with a high-heat compound to avoid seizing of metal
  • Replace worn fixture sockets (when necessary)
  • Lubricate fixture connection points with an antioxidating compound to ensure fixture can be opened for future maintenance.
  • Check gaskets to ensure fixture are properly sealed; replace when necessary

Lamp replacement

We will replace bulbs in fixtures with one of the same type and wattage. We can replace all fixture bulbs as a group on a regular schedule or replace only those bulbs that have burned out.

Fixture re-aiming

As part of our maintenance service, we will re-aim your light fixtures to ensure they achieve the desired effect of the lighting design. This is particularly important as your landscape vegetation matures and fixtures are overrun by trees and shrubs.

Troubleshooting

WEStar Illumination can troubleshoot your landscape lighting system if it is not functioning properly. We will test each circuit, connection and fixture until we identify the cause of the problem. Once we identify the problem, we will take the proper corrective action to fix it including replacing the entire fixture.

Landscape Lighting system analysis and documentation

Every homeowner that has landscape lighting should also have an analysis and documentation of their system. This should include:

  • Location of transformer
  • Location of all fixtures
  • Total wattage load for each circuit
  • Type and wattage of each fixture lamp
  • Description of fixture purpose
  • Instructions on how to operate your lighting system.

If you did not receive the above information upon installation of your landscape lighting system or upon moving into a home with an existing lighting system, WEStar Illumination will be glad to provide it to you.
